Dan “Toby” Kenneth Johnson, 84, of Dumas, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017. Memorial Services will be conducted at 1 o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brad Foster, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Dan was born on September 11, 1932 in O’Donnell TX to John and Flossie (Everett) Johnson. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict in which he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He later graduated college from West Texas University in Canyon. He married Barbara Rogers on August 24, 1956 in Artesia, NM. The couple moved to Dumas where they would raise their family. Dan taught school for several years before going into the irrigation business. He owned and operated J & S Irrigation for over 30 years. Dan was a very hard worker and later enjoyed refinishing silverware and silverware boxes. He also enjoyed flea markets. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters: Margaret Thompson and Billie Rantz.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Johnson of the home; son: Guy Johnson and wife Michele of Borger; daughter: Kenna Johnson and husband Philip Buckmeier of Pilot Point, TX; grandchildren: Elizabeth Carlson and husband Lance, Jessica Andrews and husband Damon, Joshua Johnson and wife Kimberly, Sarah Brewer and husband Clark, Zachary Scott Buckmeier; 7 great grandchildren.
The family suggests with gratitude that memorials be made to Memorial Hospice, 224 E 2nd, Dumas TX 79029.
