Robert Paul “Bob” Acker, 90, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2010. Rosary will be said at Morrison Memorial Chapel at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 3, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Barragan, pastor of the church officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens with flag detail by American Legion Post #224 of Dumas. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Bob Acker was born December 7, 1919 on the family farm outside of Nazareth, Texas to James Andrew and Katherine Acker. From 1942 to 1945, he served in the US Navy as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate, Second Class. On May 9, 1944, he married Dorothy Marie White in Hollywood, Florida. He worked as shift foreman for the US Bureau of Mines, Helium Division, first in Amarillo, then Otis, KS and finally at the Excel Plant near Masterson, retiring in 1977. In 2002, his beloved wife of 59 years, Dorothy Marie, passed away. In 2003 he married Dorothy Wright.
Bob was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight, District Deputy, and as a state officer. He was also a member the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post #9022 and the American Legion Post #224. He served on the board of the Dumas United Way of Moore County and was instrumental in establishing the Moore County Senior Citizen Center, serving as president of the original building committee, on the board of directors and as treasurer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Marie Acker, and brothers and sisters, Lawrence Acker, Lorene Dick, Irene Gidden, Bernice Brewer, Charles Acker, Mary Ann Walterschied, and Joseph Acker.
Survivors include; wife, Dorothy Wright Acker of the home; children, Kathleen Ann Litton and husband, Robert of Wichita, KS, Linda Kay Poe and husband, Ken of Florence, KY, Richard Paul Acker and wife, Linda of Pensacola, FL, Donleta Marie Frazier and husband, Ray of Elkland, MO, Ronald James Acker and wife, Penny of Prosper; brothers James Acker, Jerry Acker; sisters Regina Warren, Aurelia Schoenenberger, Josetta Heinrich, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Additional survivors include; step-children, Connie Lee Hamrick, Judy Paulette McDonald and husband Joe, Danny Jones and wife Kim, JoEllen Jobe and husband George, all of Dumas; eight step-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.
