Ronald Larry Morrison passed from this life on August 18, 2018 at the age of 80. A memorial service will be held at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, August 21st at the First Baptist Church in Dumas, TX with Jake Minton officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Larry was born on September 29, 1937 in Estelline, TX to Morris & Juanita Morrison. Larry moved from Amarillo to Dumas in 1943. He was a graduate of the Dumas High School class of 1956. Following graduation, he attended Dallas School of Mortuary Science and became a Licensed Funeral Director. Upon completing Mortuary School, Larry went to work for Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors in Perryton, TX. In 1960 he returned to Dumas where he continued to work for the Boxwell Brothers until 1968 when his family purchased the funeral homes in Dumas and Sunray. In 1975, the Morrison family purchased the Stratford Funeral Home.
He married Jo Ellen Baker in 1961 in Dumas Texas, while serving in the United States Army at Fort Hood, TX. Larry and Jo were blessed with two daughters. Larry was a former member of the Dumas Noon Lions Club, Jaycees, Texas Funeral Directors Association and was the building chairman for the new North Plains Country Club.
Larry was a very compassionate man and served countless families in their time of need with the upmost respect and dignity. He touched the lives of the young men who worked for him over the years and chose to follow his profession.
He spent many hours and traveled many miles to watch his grandchildren participate in numerous activities. He became quite the rodeo fan due to his great-grandson’s participation in the sport. This not only brought joy to his life, but to theirs as well. He will be missed by them all.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; Morris and Juanita Morrison, a brother Gene, a nephew Lance Morrison, a granddaughter Kelsey Jo Patterson and a great grandson, Rhett Alexander Lujan.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 56 years, Jo Ellen. Two daughters, Melinda and Guy Patterson, of Bushland; Marlis and Shaun Scofield of Dalhart. A brother, Jim Morrison of North Carolina. Seven grandchildren Zach, Meisha, Josh, Kaitlyn, Alix, Dreagan and Channing, and four great grandchildren, Khamdyn, Haidynn, Hudson, Breck & soon to be born, Rex.
The family suggest memorials be made to your favorite charity.

Jo Ellen, Melinda, & Marlis, loved growing up "next" to your family (literally, next door.) Mom still talks about the beautiful yard. I bet I played 1000 hours of hoops in your drive. Larry always smiled and spoke to us kids. Ill forever be grateful for Larry's kindness when Mama Marie died at her service. The Watson clan feels deeply for you r loss.
