Charles Edwin Rabbit Haire

Charles "Rabbit" Edwin Haire, 80 of Dumas, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Morrison Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock in the evening at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors. Rabbit was born on July 6, 1940 to Vernice and Edwin Haire in Nixon, TX. He was a butcher for Cut Rate Grocery and Thriftway Grocery in Dumas for many years. Rabbit was employed by Continental Carbon/Whitco for 40 years. After his retirement, he started a lawn mowing service and maintained that for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing and camping. He and Cotton Lamb spent countless hours hunting game of all sorts, fishing and riding 4 wheelers on the Canadian River, and many trips in their RVs. One of his favorite things was to go to the mountains (Eagle Nest/Red River) with his family to camp and fish. We all took several of these trips together as a family. He loved his grandkids and great grandkids, being able to teach them about the outdoors, and how to work hard for what you want. The short time he spent with Doyle and Deanie in Fort Worth, he was able to see and do lots of firsts. He was able to attend a Dallas Cowboys Game, a Texas Rangers Game, and a Dallas Stars Game. We took him fishing, and he loved to be able to get into the pool. It made him feel like a kid again! Most of all, he loved his family, he loved having cookouts with us all and just spending time with us all. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Randall Charles Haire age 16; his wife of 30 years: Judy Ann Jameson Haire; 2nd wife of 20 years; Marilyn Gillispie Haire. Rabbit is survived by one brother: Pat Ham and wife Toni of Kalama, WA; daughter: LaDonna (Deanie) Wells and husband Doyle Wells of Fort Worth; son: Robert (Bobbie) Haire and his husband Richard Miller of Dumas; 3 grandchildren: Kristen Wells Homsombath and husband Kevin of Fort Worth, Brenten Wells and wife Hannah of Amarillo and Bevany Haire of Dumas; 4 great grandsons: Kane, Saevan, Shane and Cameron. Dear, Sweet , Rabbit I knew him well. He worked in the Cut Rate meat market with my dad, JL Pickett. Prayers for the family from Judy and Jim Pickett.

After being trained by Dad James L Pickett and Rabbit, I actually made a fair meat market employee at Cut-Rate grocery, fond memories Jim Pickett

I first met Rabbit personally when he went to work at Cut Rate Grocery where he was my mother, Ima Jeqan Green's favorite sack boy as he always did as she asked and respected her. They both then went on to Thriftway when Cut Rate closed. Then we grew up more and he married a good friend of mine, Judy. What a precious couple! Grieve-as-you must, not-as-others are telling you is right, wrong or indifferent. Travel the pathway He has for you as there are no pathways but individual ones for each of you. My best-advice for you is cling to God's unchanging and unfailing hand; He will never leave or forsake you. May He bless y0u; remember you are not orphaned as He is your Father. I wish I could be there for the services but health does not allow me at 80 to travel that far any longer.
