Cruz Canales

Cruz Canales, 77 of Sunray, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. The rosary will be recited at 6 o’clock in the evening on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Morrison Memorial Chapel. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 o’clock in the morning on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dumas with Father Victor Hugo Andrade as celebrant. Interment will follow at Brown Memorial Cemetery in Sunray under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.Cruz was born on May 3, 1944 in Edinburg, TX to Arturo and Cleotilde (Cantu) Canales. He was united in marriage to Rosa Maria Martinez on March 26, 1965 in Edinburg, the couple eventually moved to Sunray where they made their home. Cruz was a very hard working man who farmed and found great joy in working the land. He also loved going to flea markets and garage sales. Cruz never met a stranger and loved to visit and socialize with everyone, he was well known to many as “Cruzito”. Cruz had a special place in his heart for children but especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.Cruz was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Reyes Canales and Estella Cavazos.Cruz is survived by his wife Rosa Canales of the home; children: Refugio Cuco Canales and wife Gracie of George West, TX, Cleo Hughes and husband William “Buck” of Spearman, TX, Estella Carbajal and husband Raul of Wheeler, TX and Freddie Canales and wife Monica of Aurora, CO; siblings: Elma Lucio, Arthur Canales and Arnulfo Canales; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
