Herminia Gomez Fuentes

Herminia Gomez Fuentes, 86 of Stratford formerly of Guymon passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. A Rosary will be recited at 7 oclock in the evening on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at St. Josephs Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 oclock in the afternoon on Monday, April 19, 2021 with Father Victor Hugo Andrade as celebrant. Interment will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, OK. Arrangements are entrusted to Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors. Herminia was born on May 17, 1934 in Juarez, Mexico to Bernab and Rosario (Varela) Gomez. She married the love of her life, Albert Fuentes in 1957 in Dalhart, TX; he preceded her in death. Herminia loved to cook, make homemade tortillas, and had owned a restaurant Minis Caf when she lived Guymon. One of Herminias greatest accomplishments was attending night school at the age of 61 to learn English. She would translate for her friends and eventually became a U.S. citizen. In her spare time, Herminia loved to garden and kept an immaculate yard. She also loved to dance with her husband and listen to music, especially Vicente Fernandez. Herminia had a canary bird named "Elvis" that could sing; Herminia loved to listen to him sing. Herminia had a deep and abiding love for God and was a devout Catholic. She was a member of St Peters Catholic Church in Guymon. She loved to sing in Mass and was very involved in the church as well as in the Cursillista Movement. She blessed her family with many wonderful memories and will be dearly missed by all. In addition to her husband, Albert, she was preceded in death by her parents. Herminia is survived by her 8 daughters: Martha Escajeda and husband Rudy of El Paso, TX, Delilah Henderson and husband Howard of Stratford, TX, Yvonne Long and husband Robert of Optima, OK, Gloria Lively and husband Dennis of Wichita, KS, Yvette Kuriyama and husband Curt of Edmond, OK, Charisse Crocker and husband Camp of Phoenix, AZ, Patricia Hall and husband Jonathan of Meridianville, AL, and Magdalena Collins and husband Chris of Suwanee, GA; 25 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
