Kathryn Jane Switser MeltonKathryn “Kathy” Jane Switser Melton, 74 of Stratford passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Church of Christ in Stratford with Doug Morrow, officiating. Interment will follow at Texhoma Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 o’clock to 8 o’clock on Friday at the funeral home in Stratford. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.Kathy was born on November 19,1947 to Edward and Janie Harland in Texhoma, Oklahoma. She married Larry Switser on August 16,1969 in Texhoma, OK. Kathy devoted her life to teaching children in Texhoma and Stratford for close to 40 years. She loved teaching and spent countless hours preparing lessons for her students. She thoroughly loved reading to her children and bringing the magic of books to her students. Kathy was a faithful member of the Stratford Church of Christ for over 40 years. She was passionate about teaching Sunday School, Wednesday night classes, and many Vacation Bible Schools. Kathy loved reading books and going to the library was a special treat for her. She treasured spending time with her large family and looked to family Thanksgivings and Christmases. Kathy loved gardening and working in her flower bed. She loved traveling with her sisters, mother, children, nieces, and nephews and took many trips throughout the United States and even some grand adventures throughout the world with her sister Loretta. Kathy was united in marriage to Jerry Melton on September 14, 2013. After retiring from teaching in 2013 she decided she wasn't done working with children. She went to work at the Lollipop Junction with very little people and loved every minute of it!Kathy was preceded in death by her husband Larry, by her parents, Brother Edward Lee Harland, and sister Loretta Farabee. She is survived by husband Jerry of the home, children Christopher Ray Switser of Lubbock, Tx, and Casey Switser of Lubbock TX, and Carie Morrow and husband of Doug of Lubbock Tx. Brothers Ernest Harland and wife Bonnie, Kenneth Harland and wife Carmen, Fred Harland and wife Claudia, sisters Janelle Eggleston, and Lorraine Baird, and three grandchildren, Ian Morrow, Alyssa Morrow and Amber Morrow; and many other extended family members.The family suggests, with gratitude, memorials be made to High Plains Children Home, 11461 S. Western St. Amarillo, TX, 79118.

Im so sorry to hear of this sweet lady passing. She was one of my elementary teachers that taught me to read. Her class was always so much fun with Super Sounder and the best prize box ever! I will always have fond memories of her. Many years later Kathey became my aunt ...
