Albert Len “Len” Morris, 75, of Gruver, died October 12, 2026, in Humble, Texas.
Len was born November 26, 1950, in Dumas, Texas, to Vance and Ruth (Montgomery) Morris. A third-generation family farmer, he grew up helping his father and brothers build the family cattle-feeding operation. He graduated from Gruver High School in 1970 and attended West Texas State University. The work ethic and independence he developed growing up on the family farm stayed with him throughout his life. He was the proud father of two daughters, who were the light of his life.
Len never shied from hard work. After growing up working the family farm and feedlot, he struck out on his own hauling cattle before beginning a career in construction, oilfield operations, and industrial safety that would take him around the world. A true jack-of-all-trades, he worked as a welder, millwright, and EMT before becoming a safety supervisor and manager on major industrial projects in the United States and overseas, including Panama, Aruba, and Syria.
In 2003, Len went to Iraq with KBR to support Team Restore Iraqi Oil. Serving as both a safety officer and vehicle recovery manager, he worked in a dangerous environment to help protect fellow workers and recover more than 100 vehicles and pieces of equipment belonging to the Iraqi oil industry, valued at over $10 million. His efforts also helped Iraqi oil workers learn to carry on the recovery work themselves. During this work, he became known as “Repo,” a fitting nickname for a man who could get things done when the odds were against him. After decades of hard work, Len retired in 2019.
Len was one of a kind: a larger-than-life, hard-working man who never backed down from a challenge and was always willing to help someone in need. He loved hard. He was crazy and funny, could talk just about anyone into anything, and loved telling stories—though you never knew if they were true. Some of his father’s biggest laughs came from Len’s tales, which he would finish with a sly smile and the declaration, “That’s the truth!”
He had a lifelong passion for nature, hunting, and fishing. A jack-of-all-trades, he seemed to have nothing he couldn’t fix. He lived by old-school values: his word was his bond, and a handshake sealed the deal.
Len was a force of nature. He wasn’t for everyone, but you always knew where you stood with him. He kept his cantankerous grin, the mischievous twinkle in those bright blue eyes, and his flirtatious nature. The greatest gift for his family was that he never lost his memory of those he loved most.
He is survived by his daughters, Marsha Tuha and her sons Zach Swimmer, Shadden Swimmer (Yanet), Tanner Swimmer, and Nico Tuha. His daughter Tammy Land (Jimmy); and her children Shelby Davis (Cameron), Jesseca Land (Kit Hulquist), and Sterling Land; great-grandchildren Zariah, Braxton, Oliver, Sabella, and Amira; brother Joe Morris (Nancy); sisters Sherry McWilliams (Scott), Renee Boyd, Vera Morris, Judy Tindell (Rusty); his best friend, “Brother Harl” Brannon (Michelle); and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother V.B. Morris, and his brother-in-law Billy Boyd.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2026, at the Sunray Church of Christ in Sunray, followed immediately by graveside services at Lane Memorial Cemetery.
