Dumas

Bobby Williams, 92 of Dumas passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11 o’clock in the morning on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Price, officiating. Private Graveside will be held at Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Bobby Williams was a farmer/rancher for over 77 years! He started pulling cotton when he was six. At the age of sixteen and in high school, he leased land, farmed and did custom work with a 2-row cotton stripper (he bought it on credit). He was the sole supporter of his mother, sister and 2 brothers. By the age of 21, he purchased his first quarter section of land in Dimmit, Tx. He farmed in the Hereford/Dimmitt area until moving to Dumas in 1963.

Bobby and his brother (Billy) farmed and developed land in Moore County. He row-watered an entire section of corn in the late 60's, made a great crop, and wrote in his book to always plant that variety— needless to say, he had a learning experience. He harvested with a 4-row cornhead and a bobtail truck before he realized there was a faster way to get the corn out and so bought a little grain cart..new methods of farming in those days. He finally gave the bobtail truck away a few years ago. He was still farming that section with Justin & Brandon this year but with high-tech computerized equipment.

While farming in Dumas, Bobby bought and managed a cattle ranch in Kansas for several years. Cattle ranching, farming, and land development didn't keep him busy enough, so he set up his own DOS accounting system on the computer and kept all of his own books. His philosophy was always "figure out what works and then just do it"! He even resurrected an old grain elevator. Over the years, Bobby not only exhibited a wide variety of skills but helped and encouraged many young men to become farmers....their stories are never ending. He and his brother, Billy, bought a single engine Mooney airplane, learned to be pilots and flew all over the United States to buy and sell land. Their spreadsheet is still on a curtain shade in his office.

Bobby was a wonderful family man! He loved and spent many, many hours with his kids and grandkids....they also have unending stories. He and Linda worked on the farm during the day and then the books at night. He had more energy than anybody. He had a knack for making people laugh.

Bobby served on the Dumas school board for ten years. Being a pilot, he flew the coaches around to scout teams. He was active on boards such as Lions Club, where he was the "Old Timer of the Year" this year. He also served on the Chamber of Commerce, the Federal Land Bank, Young Republicans, and the McCall's Chapel School for Special Needs Children (his oldest daughter was there). He served on the High Plains Cotton Growers Board. He was instrumental in the organization and building of the Adobe Walls Gin in 2006 - many great stories, again, while finding the location and investors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Lynette; grandson: Jarod Leonard; siblings: Winston, Billy, Melba, James.

Bobby and Linda have five living children, Neila Williams, Kyle and wife Mauri Williams, Bryce and wife Misty Williams, April Diehl and husband Jeff, and Justin Garrett and wife Lori; thirteen living grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was such an awesome "Opa"!! He was still active in the farming operations and partnered with two sons, Bryce & Justin. His agenda was always full! His reputation as a hard worker was justified. One summer, while running concrete in 100+ degree weather, the crew was exhausted, and he was still going strong. One of the younger employees commented: "you're just made of better steel than the rest of us!!"
