Charles G. Black, 80, of Dumas, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in Dumas.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026, in the Chapel at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, Texas, with Rev. Daniel Downey officiating. Viewing will be held Sunday at Beeson-Morrison Funeral Directors in Dumas, with the family receiving friends for visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the loving care of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon and Memphis.

Charles was born on December 19, 1945, in Wellington, Texas, to Elmer Glen and Joy Estene Black. He grew up in Wellington and graduated from Wellington High School. On November 22, 1972, he married the love of his life, Patsy Lynn Murdock, in Hollis, Oklahoma. Together, they built a life rooted in love and devotion, sharing 53 years of marriage. They made their home in Memphis before moving to Dumas in 1990, where Charles became an active member of the Eagles Lodge.

A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, Charles carried a deep sense of duty and honor throughout his life. He faithfully served Moore County for 25 years in law enforcement, holding positions as Deputy Sheriff, Sergeant Investigator, and Chief Deputy. He earned the respect and admiration of both his colleagues and the community he served.

Affectionately known as the “singing deputy,” Charles had a remarkable gift for music. He could hear a song and then sit down at the piano or organ and play it with ease. His love of music brought joy to many, and he was known as the “karaoke king” among family and friends. His playful spirit was evident in the simple, joyful moments he created—especially his unforgettable cow sounds that brought laughter, particularly to his great-granddaughter, Nova.

Charles will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to others, and the warmth, laughter, and music he shared so freely.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Norman Black; his sisters, Linda Black and Edie Robertson; his great grandson, Waylon Shillings; and his nephews, Elmer and Glen Black.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy Black of Dumas; his daughter, Tracie Shillings and husband Steve of Amarillo; his grandchildren, Courtney Hale and husband Jon of Wharton, and Justin Shillings and wife Kelley of Amarillo; his great-granddaughter, Nova Shillings of Amarillo; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
