Charles Dwight Ray, 76 formerly of Dumas passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Family Life Church in Amarillo with Pastor Robbie Ashlock, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 o’clock to 8 o’clock in the evening on Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Charles was born on December 8, 1947, in Dalhart, TX to Charlie and Oteka (Patrick) Ray. He proudly served his country in USMC from 1967 to 1969 in Vietnam. On March 2, 1970, he married Mary Jane in Dumas; she preceded him in death in 2022. Charles retired from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.  He enjoyed fishing, square dancing and was involved in Boy Scouts where he was known as Papa Ray.

In addition to his wife, Mary Jane, he was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Walker Cooksey; brothers: Harold Ray, Bobby Ray, Dale Golden; sister: Geraldine Hulett; family in love: Joe and Adelia Herrera, Freddie Herrera, Tony Herrera, Harold Hawthorne, Robert Evans, Vickie Herrera, Gail Herrera, Marsha Ray and Sandy Ray.

Charles is survived by his daughters: Jenny Ray of Amarillo, Cynthia Cooksey and husband Charles of Dumas; grandchildren: Desimber Goodman, Kimberlee Pierce, Braxton Cooksey, Trinity Cooksey, Grayson Pierce, Peyton Goodman, Presleigh Goodman, Legend Campos, Rylan Pierce; special friends: Derrick Lewis, Brady Baldwin, and Felicia Batts; trusty sidekick: Sadie Mae; brothers: Keith Ray and wife Maxine of Amarillo, Mike Ray of Amarillo, Kenneth Ray and wife Jonnie of Pampa; sister: Betty Hawthorne of Killeen; family in love: Chris Herrera, Gloria Evans, Orlando Herrera and Vangie, Lucy Howell and Steve, Lena Muse and Joe, Kristi Aguilera and Fabian; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.
