Dec 29, 1958 — Jun 28, 2026

Cheryl Ann Smith, born December 29, 1958, in Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away on June 28, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas. Cheryl was the beloved daughter of Cecil Ray and Bonnie (Worry) Byars in Nacogdoches, TX.

Cheryl’s journey began in the heart of East Texas, where she developed a profound appreciation for the outdoors, nurtured by the woods and open spaces of her hometown. These early years inspired a lifelong love of hunting, fishing, and horseback riding — passions that she joyfully shared with friends and family throughout her life.

She was a woman of many talents, dedicated to serving her community through her work at various police departments, as well as at the Texas Workers Compensation Insurance office in Austin.

Outside her professional life, Cheryl had a deep enthusiasm for Nascar and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Game days and race weekends were filled with spirited excitement, laughter, and camaraderie, reflecting her zest for life and her warm, inviting spirit. She rarely missed a chance to cheer for her favorite teams or share her infectious enthusiasm with others. Cheryl also loved dogs and was adopted by Cassie’s Great Dane, Angus who never left her side.

Cheryl’s faith was ever-present and deeply meaningful throughout her days. As an active and devoted member of Martinsville Baptist Church in Martinsville, TX, she participated in countless church fundraisers and events, forming cherished bonds with fellow congregants and contributing generously of her time and talents. Her commitment to her church community reflected her core values of kindness, charity, and love. She found purpose and connection within these walls, always eager to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.

Cheryl is lovingly survived by her mother, Bonnie Byars; her son, Clint Smith and wife Gwen; her daughter, Cassie Hataway and her husband Jeremy; her granddaughters, Emily Maydon, Riley Smith, and Audrey Smith; her sister, Sandra Potter; as well as her cousins, Charles Byars and Joyce Hollyfield.

She is preceded in death by her father, Cecil Ray Byars.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later time in East Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
