Dorothy Vowell - 83 of Dumas, Texas. Dorothy passed away on November 2, 2006 in Dumas, Texas. Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Dumas Cemetery, Dumas, Texas. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at First Baptist Church, Cactus-Etter, with the Rev. Bob Ulrey officiating. She was born September 11, 1923 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Dorothy was owneroperator of Etter Grocery for many years, being a resident since 1942. People in the EtterCactus area loved to visit when they went to buy groceries. In the 80's she started working as a security guard for the meat packing plant. Fifteen years ago, she met truck driver, Leroy Whitfield and they traveled the country on the big rig. The summer of 2006, she worked at the Etter Farmer's Market. Survivors include: Leroy, of the home; brother, Max Johnson and wife, Anne of Lubbock, Texas. Dorothy didn't have any children of her own, but raised John, Eddie and Jerrald as her own. She is also survived by several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Eugene, Bobby, Rodney, Harold and Billy Jack. Memorials may be made to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd, Dumas, Texas 79029.
