Ellen Phillips

Ellen Phillips, 90 of Dumas, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Memorial services will be held at 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Pastor Lane Boyd officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Ellen was born on December 1, 1935, in Arapaho, OK to Ernest and Mable Upchurch. She moved to Dumas as a child where she attended school and would live the majority of her life. Ellen worked at Dr. Peeple’s and later at Dr. Plunk's for over 25 years as a dental assistant and was very involved in the community, willing to help wherever she could. She volunteered at the Window on the Plains Museum, Meals on Wheels, Memorial Nursing and Rehab, was a Rose Lady at the hospital and also was a member of the "Hugs" singing group. Ellen was strong in her faith being a member of the First Baptist Church in Dumas where she taught Sunday School and was on various committees.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands: Don Phillips and Ernest Munkres; and siblings: Dortha, Lometa, J.C., Ray, Dwight, Ernestine, Bobbie, June and Dale.

Ellen is survived by her son Scott Phillips and wife Delonda of Dumas, TX along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests with gratitude that memorials be made to Memorial Nursing and Rehab or to Memorial Hospice.
