Esther was born June 21, 1935, in Clovis, New Mexico to Charles and Sophia McDaniel. She was raised on a farm just northwest of Texico, New Mexico. She became a Christian at an early age and was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Texico. Esther went to school at Texico where she was voted “most beautiful” and “most athletic” in high school before graduating in May of 1953. Shortly after graduating she married Ronny Banks Ferguson on August 30, 1953. While being a military wife, she traveled from Texico to Ft. Lewis, Washington with a 6-week-old baby. Together they welcomed three children, Gary, Donavan, and ViAnn Ferguson.
“Having grown up on the farm, I was game for anything that needed to be done.” – Esther Ferguson
Esther worked at State Line Tribune in Farwell, TX as a linotype operator. Ronny and Esther moved to Stratford, TX in 1962 and worked together to build, as co-owners, Stratford Printing and Office Supply. Later in 1981 they expanded and added Du-Moore Office Supply in Dumas, TX. Having ran a successful business Ronny and Esther achieved the Businesspersons of the Year award in 1984. They continued to work at the businesses for 35 years until retiring in 1995. Spending the rest of her time pursuing the grandkids activities, Esther never missed a thing they did.
Esther’s priorities were God, family, and her country. Always having her camera with her, she never let an opportunity go by without taking a picture. Esther was a wonderful cook having her whole family look forward to family dinners where she would make her orange salad, coleslaw, and coconut cream pie. Esther loved game time with her family and always played chicken foot dominoes. She was a world record setter at “tipping, collating, and inserting” at the print shop.
Esther was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Dumas, TX where she enjoyed her Ruth Sunday School classes until her failing health prevented her from attending. Esther is proceeded in death by her brother Leon McDaniel, sisters Helen Willis and Grace Whitehead, brother-in-law Fred Ferguson, and cherished son Gary Kent Ferguson.
