Dumas

Ethel Chapman, 95 of Dumas, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025. A celebration of life is scheduled for 10 o’clock in the morning on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Brother Johnny Widener, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Ethel was born on February 18, 1930, in Ft. Gibson, OK to Harry Austin and Lillie Mae (Collins) Shaffer. She grew up in Ft. Gibson where she attended school. Ethel was united in marriage to Ray Chapman on July 1, 1949, and the couple moved to Dumas shortly afterwards where they raised their children and made their home. They were married for 61 years. Ethel and Ray were founding members of the Bible Baptist Church and loved the Lord deeply. Through all the trials and tribulations in her life, she never lost her trust in the Lord. She was a great prayer warrior; she ended every conversation with her family reminding them that she loved them and was praying for them. Ethel was an excellent homemaker and loved to cook; her jams and pies were legendary. She was always taking a meal to someone in need or sharing her baked goods. She was also an accomplished seamstress, making elaborate Easter and Christmas dresses for her granddaughters. She had a knack for gardening and was especially talented in growing African violets. Ethel will be missed by all her family and friends who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray, grandchildren: Cooper Chapman and Cash Allen Chapman, and her daughter-in-law Tuesday Chapman.

Ethel is survived by her sons: Gerry Chapman and wife DeAnn of Amarillo, TX and Bobby Dane Chapman of Dumas, TX; grandchildren: Blythe Chapman, Kaitlin Warrington and husband Mark, and Kelsey Chapman; great grandchildren: Brooks Butler, Kashton Crider, Rileston Chapman, Hannah Warrington and Shepherd Warrington along with numerous other extended family members.
