Garland E. Rhodes, 86 of Dumas, passed away late in the afternoon on Friday, November 22, 2019. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 oclock in the afternoon on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Damon Akins, pastor of the church, officiating and Patsy Anderson assisting. Interment will follow in Dumas Cemetery with military committal honors by local American Legion Post 224 and Masonic Graveside Services by Dumas Masonic Lodge #1009. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors. Garland was born May 26, 1933 in Turkey Ford, OK to Lafayette and Lonie Leota (Bartlow) Rhodes. He served his country in the US Army and on February 25, 1956 he would marry Helen Faye McLain . They would make Dumas their home where Garland would own and operate Garlands Barber Shop for 56 years before retiring. Garland loved to live life to its fullest. He would be the first one to volunteer to be the daredevil. He was a devoted Christian and family man. Garland spent many years tracing his family heritage and made sure to take his children hunting, fishing and purchasing antiques to refinish. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Dumas and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, Garland was preceded in death by sisters: Ida Thurman and Edith Irene Rhodes; brother: Tommy Lee Rhodes. He is survived by his wife Helen Faye Rhodes of the home; daughters: Garla Brummett and husband Rusty of Vinita, OK, Brenda Funk and husband Jerry of Amarillo, TX, and Carolyn Mahaffey of Dumas, TX; son: Mark Rhodes and wife Trish of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren: Shawnna Burgess and husband Dallas of Mooreland, OK, Tiffany Bassham and husband Justin of Dumas,TX, Melany Mahaffey of Amarillo, TX and Caitlin and Cooper Rhodes of Amarillo, TX; great-grandchildren: Lexi Mahaffey, Nekoda Mahaffey, Christian Bassham, Jaci Mahaffey, Tristyn Burgess and Dawsyn Burgess. The family suggests with gratitude memorials be made to First Assembly of God Building Fund, PO Box 764, Dumas TX 79029.
