George Newton, 89 of Dumas passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10 o'clock in the morning on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Cornerstone Church with Frank Gordoa, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will follow at Dumas Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4 pm to 5 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
George was born on January 27, 1927 in Alva, KY to Henry 'Tad' and Sarah (Wilder) Newton. He was united in marriage to Janet McDaniel in 1964 in Clayton, NM. George honorably served his country in the US Army during WWII from 1945 to 1946; he drove a half-track for generals. George also worked in coal mines in Virginia and Dumas Coop for over 33 years until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of The Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge. George will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Linda Holt; son: Gary Newton: grandchildren: Tracy Woods and Mandy Camp; and 8 brothers and sisters.
George is survived by his wife Janet of the home; sons: George Newton, Jr. and wife Shelly of Rogers, AR and Jarrett Newton and wife Sally of Arlington, TX; sister-in-law: Genelle Newton of Taylor, MI; nieces: Wilma Walker of AZ and Barbara Seaman and husband Jim of MI;grandchildren: Daisy Gifford, George Holt IV, Silver Hays, Melody Campbell, Marshall Camp, Stephanie Butterfield, Christina Jackson, Maegan, Newton and Sarah Newton; 8 great-grandchildren; and several extended family members.
