Gerald “Jerry” Pflug passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in Dumas, TX. A Private family burial will be held at Dumas Cemetery. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:30 in the afternoon on Monday, August 12, 2024, at First Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Brown, pastor of the church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 3 o’clock in the afternoon until 5 o’clock in the evening on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at the Arts Center.
Gerald was born on August 28, 1936, in Papillion, NE. He was the youngest of six children of Walter and Alma Pflug. The family moved to Texas where they lived at a carbon plant between Stinnet and Panhandle, then moved to Lefors where he graduated from high school in 1955. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Marines.
He married Glynda Northcott January 29, 1960 in Lefors, TX. They moved to Dumas in 1964 where they raised their three children. He worked for Shamrock Oil and Gas as a field mechanic until he had to take early retirement in 1987.
Gerald became a Cub Scout leader, then moved up to Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 137. He was one of the area leaders to take a group of scouts to the National Jamboree in Washington D.C. in 1981. Several of the scouts in his troop earned the Life Badges and Eagle Badges. While a Scout Master, Jerry received the District Award of Merit.
He was a member of First Methodist Church, Dumas, and was part of mission teams that worked building churches, parsonages, and fellowship halls in the Four Corners area of New Mexico.
Window on the Plains Museum and The Art center were special places where he volunteered. He watched them both grow from ranch land to important parts of Moore County. He received the Joyce Dillow Heritage Award for 2004 for his dedication and service.
He enjoyed RVing with family and friends and the times spent at the Pflug cabin in Ute Park, NM. Fishing and riding snow mobiles were his favorite cabin activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. Gerald is survived by his wife, Glynda; sons Rick and wife, Lavonda, of Amarillo and Brian and wife, Lisa of Huntsville, and one daughter, Krista Floyd and husband, Quintin, of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Dick of McKinney and Jack of Aumsville, OR.
