Helen Faye Rhodes, 89 of Dumas, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at First Assembly of God with Rusty Brummett, Helen’s son in law, officiating. Interment will follow in Dumas Cemetery under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 6 o’clock until 7 o’clock in the evening on Friday at the funeral home.
Helen was born on July 1, 1935, in Swartz, LA to C.C. and Fannie (Musick) Mclain. The family moved to Sunray when Helen was a young child and later to Dumas in her teenage years. She married Garland Rhodes on February 25, 1956, in Dumas where the couple made their home and raised their children. Helen worked as a cook at Green Acres Elementary, Theresa’s Kitchen and finally at her favorite place, Albert’s Manor; she enjoyed visiting with the folks just as much as she did cooking. Helen was born with a true servant’s heart and countless times would put others' needs above her own. She showed her love through cooking and often would bring food to those that weren’t feeling well just to bring a little comfort to them. Helen also loved the Lord and was very active in her church, First Assembly of God.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Chick Mclain and Jerry Mclain; sister: Betty Fults; and her husband Garland in 2019.
Helen is survived by her daughters: Garla Brummett and husband Rusty of Vinita, OK, Brenda Funk and husband Jerry of Amarillo, TX, and Carolyn Mahaffey of Dumas, TX; son: Mark Rhodes and wife Trish of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren: Shawnna Burgess and husband Dallas, Tiffany Bassham and husband Justin, Melany Green and Kim, Caitlin Little and husband Desmond and Cooper Rhodes; great-grandchildren: Lexi Mahaffey, Nekoda Mahaffey, Christian Bassham, Jaci Mahaffey, Tristyn Burgess and Dawsyn Burgess; great-great grandchild: Bailey Star; along with numerous other extended family members.
The family suggests with gratitude memorials be made to First Assembly of God Building Fund, PO Box 764, Dumas TX 79029.
