Howard Hunter, 85 of Dumas, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10 o’clock in the morning on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Sunray Church of Christ with Darrell Grey, officiating. Interment will follow at Dumas Cemetery under the arrangements of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Howard was born on July 14, 1937 in Springer, NM to John H. and Edith Odessa (Chrissman) Hunter. He grew up in Hereford where he graduated from high school.  He married Doris Nell on September 14, 1956, in Hereford, TX; she preceded him in death on July 16, 2001. In May 2002 he married Betty Hepler Brown. Howard worked for Phillips Petroleum until his retirement in 1997. He went on to work as a farmer and rancher which he loved.

In addition to his first wife, Nell, he was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Stella Bippes and Marie Wilkins; brother-in-law: John Meisenbach.

Howard is survived by his wife Betty, of the home; children: Howard Scott Hunter and wife Carla of Guymon, OK, David Vernon Hunter and wife Frances of Sand Springs, OK, Gina Renee Gray and husband Gary of Eastland, TX, Kristi D’Aun McNair and husband James of Lago Vista, TX, Lauri D’Neene Rousseau and husband Bill of Tolar, TX; sister: Evelyn Meisenbach of Tampa, FL; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
