James Walter “Jim” Ferguson, 67 of Sunray passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024. He will be assisted by Will Ferguson and Jeff Goodwin. Interment will follow at Brown Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Jim was born on April 3, 1957, in Canyon, TX to Robert and Wanda (Gross) Ferguson. He grew up in Sunray and graduated from Sunray High School.  Jim owned and operated Pyramid Cattle Company.  He was united in marriage to Rhonda Rigoni on February 14, 2014 in Dumas, TX.

Jim was a larger-than-life cowboy, mule-skinner, and cattle trader who embodied the spirit of these trades in everything he did. His pioneer spirit took him on many adventures and pulled him back up into the saddle time after time. Whether on his horse, canoe, The Bus, his mules and wagons, or his motorcycle, Jim loved to go, and he brought so many of us along with him to share in some experiences of a lifetime. He was gritty, ornery, funny, and tough. He loved hearing and telling a good story, doing things the old ways, and was always excited to try something new. Jim would strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone, and he had the ability to spark life into wherever he was. Jim Ferguson will no doubt live on in places that span the country through our stories.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Wanda and a granddaughter: Opal.

Jim is survived by his wife, Rhonda, of the home; son: Will Ferguson and partner Maria Zepeda of Salmon, ID; daughters: Lindsey Shelton and husband Thrice of Angel Fire, NM, Cordia Drennan and husband Mitch of Brashear, TX, Kendra Sturgess and husband Allen of Tulia, TX, and Bethany Finck of Tulia, TX; Seth Seiler and wife Sharly of Gruver, TX; father: Robert Ferguson of Amarillo, TX; sisters: Carrie Hare and husband Allen of Amarillo, TX, Mary Ann O’Rear and husband Jerry of Canyon, TX; grandchildren: Poppy and Huck, Kenzie, Kadence, Berkley, Brayson, Haze, Rozzlyn, and Scarlett.
