James "Jr." Braxton Samples

James Braxton Samples, 83 of Cactus, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025. A Rosary will be recited at 6 o’clock in the evening on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Morrison Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11 o’clock in the morning on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Bible Baptist Church in Sunray with Pastor Seth Seale, officiating. Interment will follow at Lane Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

James was born on April 28, 1942, to Eddie and Essie Samples. After school, James started his career in law enforcement. He served in many areas in the panhandle with his longest tenure being in Cactus, TX. He retired from law enforcement after over 29 years of service. James enjoyed fishing, drinking coffee and a good cigarette. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

James is survived by his wife, Maria of the home; son: Gerardo Rivera and wife Elena of Kansas; daughters: Ana Concha and husband Francisco of Etter, TX, Leslie Castaneda of Dumas, TX and Cheri Bonnie Samples of New Mexico; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
