IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jay Charles
Stewart
August 22, 1955 – February 10, 2026
Jay Stewart, 70, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. A Graveside Service is scheduled at noon on Monday, February 16, 2026, at The Record Family Cemetery with Andy Etheridge, officiating. Jay will be available for viewing on Sunday from 1 o’clock to 5 o’clock in the afternoon at the funeral home as well as 8 o'clock to 11 o'clock in the morning on Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
Jay was a lifelong rancher whose work ethic, grit, and quiet strength shaped both the land he cared for and the family he loved so deeply. Ranching wasn’t just his livelihood—it was who he was. Early mornings, long days, and wide-open skies suited him, and he took pride in a life built with his hands.
A man of deep faith, Jay loved God and lived by simple, steady values—honesty, loyalty, and doing right by others. He believed in hard work, keeping your word, and taking care of family. He admired the old-school kind of character and toughness, and few things made him smile more than watching a classic Western starring John Wayne.
More than anything, Jay cherished his family. His greatest joy was being “JayJay” to his grandchildren, Emily and Isaac. Time spent with them—whether sharing stories, laughter, or quiet everyday moments—meant the world to him. They were his pride and his heart.
By his side through it all was his loyal dog, Trey, a faithful companion who rarely left him and brought him comfort, company, and steady friendship each day. Their bond was a simple but special one, built on quiet mornings and long days together.
Jay will be remembered for his steady presence, his strong faith, and the simple, honest way he lived his life. His legacy lives on in the values he passed down and the love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Keith Hayhurst.
Jay is survived by his son: Josh Stewart and fiancé Gaby of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren: Emily Jay Stewart and Isaac Joshua Stewart; sister: Tracy Hayhurst of Amarillo, TX; loyal K9 companion of 10 years: Trey; other extended family members to include: Ann Pipkin and husband Vernon, Deana Richards and husband Robert, Maggie Fouts and husband Sam, Carolyn Carr, Harry Record and wife Margie, Gladys Lummus and husband Chris and wonderful extended Hayhurst and Golladay families.
The family suggests, with gratitude, that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 700 E 1st Street, Dumas, TX 79029 or to the donor's favorite charity dedicated to animals.
