Jelene Ballard, 77 of Dumas, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Watson, officiating; he will be assisted by Larry Appel. Internment will follow at Dumas Cemetery under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 3 o’clock in the afternoon until 5 o’clock in the evening on Sunday at the funeral home.
Jelene was born on July 31, 1948, in Sayre, OK, to Loyd and Roberta (Simpson) Woodward. She was united in marriage to Joe L. Ballard on December 19, 1966, in Canyon, TX. The couple moved to Dumas in November 1968, where they made their home. They owned and operated AAA Cleaning Co. for 25 years. Jelene loved music, playing the piano, and was the assistant church pianist for Calvary Baptist Church. She was also involved with Red Hat Society, Dumas Memorial Auxiliary, and fun with music at Memorial Nursing and Rehab.
Jelene’s favorite hobbies were playing bingo, card games, gardening, and quilting. She was involved with the Pedal Pushers Quilters Circle at Calvary Baptist Church, as well as at the Temple Baptist Church Quilters. The special time in her life was family gatherings at Osage River in Jefferson City, MO, during September. Her greatest life lesson was “You are a little of someone of everyone you meet.”
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jelene is survived by her husband, Joe of the home; son: Gary & wife Lori Ballard of Dumas; brothers: Bobby & wife Liz Woodward and Lonnie Woodward of Jefferson City, MO; sister: Jenelle Kay & husband Keith Schoonover of Houston, TX; uncle: Bob Simpson of Canyon, TX; nephew: Jerry & wife Agnes Ballard of Amarillo, TX; niece Valorie Ballard of Dumas, TX; grandchildren: Katelyn and Allison Ballard of Kearny, AZ, Joey Jaeger and wife Randall of Texhoma, OK, Jessica Collums Amarillo, TX, Charlie Jeager and wife Taylin of Cheyenne, WY; great-grandchildren: Sierra, Sophie and Lenny Collums of Amarillo, TX, Craig, Gracey Lou, Wyatt, and Taidlyn Jaeger of Texhoma, OK, James Ballard of Kearny, AZ; special family: Randy, Miranda, Trenton, Halie and Shooter Coon of Dumas, TX.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggest, with gratitude, that memorials be made to the Moore County Senior Center, 701 E 16th, Dumas, TX 79029
