Jerry Mike Laurent, born on April 20, 1948, in Bowie, Texas, passed away on May 26, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, skill, and commitment to family and community. He was a beloved son of Joe Ben and Inez (Baldwin) Laurent.
Mike’s early years were shaped by strong family bonds and a deep connection to his Texas roots. His service in the United States Army exemplified his patriotism and sense of duty. Following his military service, Mike dedicated 40 years to working as a mechanic at Valero and afterwards was employed by Kenny Keisling. He was known as a great mechanic and everyone who met Mike said what a friendly guy he was and what a big impact he had on their lives.
His personal passions enriched his life and those around him. Hunting, fishing, and camping were cherished pastimes, reflecting his love for the outdoors and nature. Beyond these pursuits, Mike also generously gave his time as a Little League coach, demonstrating his devotion to youth and community engagement.
Mike was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Caudle, who preceded him in death on August 4, 2023. Their partnership was a foundation of support and love, deeply treasured by all who knew them.
He is survived by his daughter, Meredith Laurent of Dumas, Texas, who carries forward his compassionate spirit. Mike was a proud grandfather to granddaughters Syndey Bell and her husband Benjamin, Jordan Laurent, and Havan Laurent, who were precious to him and a source of immense joy. His family circle also includes his brother, James Laurent of Dalhart, TX, and sister-in-law, Mary Smith of Dumas, Texas. He was blessed with brother-in-law Joe Caudle of Andrews, TX; nephew James Lee Smith and wife Cynthia of Grand Prairie, Texas; and niece Sheila Johnson and husband Michael of Sunray, Texas and numerous other extended family members whose love and support remain a treasured part of his story.
Mike’s life was deeply intertwined with the memories of those who have gone before him, including his wife Margaret Caudle Laurent, brothers Jackie, Billy, Larry, and Donald Laurent, his sister Patsy Green.
A graveside service is scheduled for 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray with Bruce Broxson, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
