Channing

Jerry Ray Rentfro, a lifelong Texas Panhandle rancher, passed away peacefully at his home in Channing, Texas, on March 13, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on December 20, 1931, in Amarillo, Jerry lived a life defined by independence, hard work, and dedication to his family and community.

Jerry’s early years were spent in Amarillo, where he graduated from Amarillo High School, becoming the first in his family to earn a high school diploma. He later attended West Texas State University for one year and another at Texas Tech University before answering the call to serve during the Korean Conflict, when he was drafted into the United States Army.

In his personal life, Jerry found enduring partnership and love with Beverly, whom he married on January 28, 1955, in Amarillo, TX. Their union was a cornerstone of his life until Beverly’s passing. Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Tode and Mildred Rentfro, and his brother, June Rentfro.

Jerry took pride in living life on his own terms, finding satisfaction in doing things his own way. He believed strongly in supporting the community that had been important to him throughout his life. Over the years he served in a number of local organizations, including the Panhandle Livestock Association, was a member of the Hartley/Dallam County Hospital District Board, and of First Baptist Church in Channing, where he served as treasurer. Whether through his work on the ranch or his service to these organizations, Jerry approached life with steady commitment and a deep sense of responsibility.

He is survived by his sons, Jerry Don Rentfro and his wife Deana of Dumas, TX, and Jim Rentfro and his wife Jeanne of Channing, TX. Jerry’s legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Tara Bachtel, Toby Jim Rentfro, Jerry Michael Rentfro, and Elizabeth Drew Hill. His great- grandchildren—Talen, Bailey, Brooklyn, Blaire, Tatum, Tucker, Kensie, Brinley, and Channing—are living testaments to the family he nurtured and loved deeply.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 5 o'clock in the afternoon until 7 o'clock in the evening at Beeson-Morrison Funeral Directors, located at 1015 S Dumas Ave, Dumas, TX.
