Jimmy Lewis Johnson

Jimmy Lewis Johnson, 85 of Dumas passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10 o’clock in the morning on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at New Beginnings Baptist Church with Pastor Johnny Widener, officiating. Interment will follow at Dumas Cemetery. The family will receive from 5 o’clock to 7 o’clock in the evening on Wednesday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Lewis was born on September 22, 1940, in Pampa to Arvil and Jeffie Johnson. He married Nancy Smith on May 10, 1964, in Clayton, New Mexico, beginning a marriage that became a central part of his life’s story. He worked alongside his father at Johnson’s Western Wear and City Shoe Shop until taking over the business himself, continuing a family tradition through dedication and steady effort.

As a young man, Lewis loved to cowboy on the Mendota Ranch, an experience that reflected the western spirit he carried throughout his life. He enjoyed camping and fishing, and he especially loved the mountains. He was also known for “picking on” his grandchildren, a playful affection that surely brought laughter and memories to those who knew him best. Among the many things he enjoyed, he had a special fondness for what he considered the best pickup truck ever made: his 1995 red Chevy.

Lewis will also be remembered for his sense of humor and his outlook on life, captured in his famous saying: “If you can’t have fun, why live?” That spirit of enjoyment, warmth, and down-to-earth character shaped the way he lived and the way he will be remembered.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; parents; son: Bobby Johnson; granddaughter: Abby Widener; siblings: Ferrell Miller, Johnny Johnson and Melba Kent.

Lewis is survived by his son; Jerry Johnson and his wife, Wendy, of Aubrey, Texas; and his daughter, Stacy Widener and her husband, Johnny, of Dumas, Texas. His memory will be cherished by his grandchildren, Rachel Widener, Becky Widener, Jonathan Widener, Hannah Lewis and her husband, Austin, Sydney Keeton and her husband, Gibbs, Jared Johnson and his wife, Alexis, and Mark Johnson. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Sophie, Jaylee, Madison, Cruz, Russell, Quinn, Piper, Emryn, Bellamy, Archer, Cali, and Henry; sister: Sharon Truitt of Dumas, TX.

Those who knew and loved Jimmy will remember a man who valued work, family, laughter, and the outdoors. His memory lives on in the stories he told, the example he set, and the joy he brought to everyday life.
