Joe McCormick, 82, formerly of Dumas, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, in Villisca, Iowa. Joe was born on December 29, 1942, in Amarillo, TX to Joseph Hugh and Mary Lew (Haile) McCormick. He grew up in Dumas and graduated from Dumas High School in 1961. After graduation, Joe attended Amarillo College, University of Texas – Austin and West Texas State. He achieved his dream of a PhD in Higher Education Administration in 1994.
Joe worked tirelessly in the field of student financial assistance to ensure all students had access to higher education no matter their economic circumstances. Joe loved spending time with his family, visiting Alaska, talking with everyone he met, and reading history books. Joe had the kindest heart and loved his family and friends dearly.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Hugh McCormick and Mary Lew Haile and infant sister Fannie Sue.
Joe is survived by his wife Connie McCormick of Red Oak, Iowa; three daughters: Tamara (Dave) Withers of Saginaw, TX; Stephanie (Jim) Robinson of Canyon, TX; and Andrea (Brian) Ritter of Lawton, OK; as well as seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 o’clock in the morning on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Dumas Cemetery with Pastor Matt Price, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock in the evening on Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
