Jon Harper

Jon Wilson Harper, 72 of Dumas, passed away on Thursday, October 16. 2025. Funeral services will be held at 10 o’clock in the morning on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Change of Heart Church with Teacher Keith Hight, pastor of the church, officiating. Cremation will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 5 o’clock in the afternoon until 7 o’clock in the evening on Wednesday at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Jon was born on May 21, 1953, in Hereford, TX to Melvin and Sue (Gulley) Harper. When Jon was young, the family moved to Dumas where Jon attended and graduated from Dumas High School in 1972. While attending Dumas High School, Jon excelled in track and field and was very athletic. He married Debbie Henry on May 28, 1976, in Dumas and the couple lived in Dumas for the rest of their lives where they made their home and raised their two daughters. Jon was a truck driver for his entire career, driving for numerous companies and was recently driving for P & P Delco in Dalhart. Jon loved the Lord, was a past deacon of Calvary Baptist Church and was most recently attending Change of Heart Church. He loved life and his two girls meant everything to him.

Jon is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter: Evelyn Rose Fox.

Jon is survived by his wife of 49 years, Debbie of the home; daughters: Alicia Harper and Darin Ward of Dumas, TX and Megan Schrade and husband Jarrett of Goliad, TX; sister: Sally Ulrey and husband Bob of Borger, TX; brothers: Mike Harper and wife Sheila of Greenbrier, Arkansas and Jim Harper and wife Cindy of Nashville, Tennessee; sister in law: Carolyn Long and husband Ted of Dumas, TX; grandchildren: Amber Ward of Dumas, TX, and Kalynn Bassham and husband Jaylon of Stratford, TX; great-grandchildren: Amelia Grace Fox, Julie Bassham and Braxton Bassham; along with numerous brother in laws, sister in laws, cousins, nephews, nieces and other extended family members.
