Josie Wilson Chesser, 99 of Dumas, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024.  Graveside services will be conducted at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, January 22, 2024 at Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray with Rev. Darrell Wait, pastor of First Christian Church officiating.  The family will receive friends from 3 o’clock in the afternoon until 5 o’clock in the evening on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the funeral home in Dumas.  Arrangements are entrusted to Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Josie was born on May 3, 1924 in Hedley, TX to William and Josie (Fain) Plunk. She married J. B. Chesser on November 3, 1948 in Hereford, TX and the family moved to the community in 1951 where they made their home and raised their children.  She was a member of the First Christian Church of Dumas and was known for being honest, truthful and holding true to her word.

In her younger years she loved sports and played basketball in high school.  She was also a member of the Sunray Bowling League in her young adult life.

Josie is preceded in death by her parents, husband J.B. in 1997, siblings: Edith Plunk, Rowe Plunk, Emma Lewell Noland, Olon Plunk, Clay Plunk and Joel Plunk and a grandchild Cheri Eddy.

Josie is survived by her sons: Joel Bryan Chesser and wife Cathy and Ricky Chesser all of Dumas, TX;   daughter: Sharon Frische and husband Gene of Dumas, TX; grandchildren: Jason Chesser and wife Shannon, Marshall Chesser and wife Jennifer, Jena O’Guinn and husband Cody, Chris Chesser, Shelah Johnston and husband Derek and Shannan Heck and husband Morgan; along with 16 great grandchildren.
