Karen Newsom

August 26, 1951 — November 2, 2019

Karen Newsom, 68, of Sunray, passed away early Saturday morning, November 2, 2019. Memorial services are scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at 2 oclock in the afternoon at Bible Baptist Church in Sunray with Rev. Seth Seale officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors. Karen was born August 26, 1951, in Dumas, TX to Wester and Lois (Donahoo) Lackey. She grew up in Sunray, TX and after a short time away in Washington where she worked for Boeing, Karen would return to Sunray where she would meet and marry Billy Newsom on April 26, 2013. She worked as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional with the Sunray Schools and especially enjoyed her time with the special needs children. Karen was an excellent cook and considered it therapy if she was feeling down. She was also very crafty and was an avid collector of antique glass and any type of rooster. Karen loved her community and was always ready to help as needed. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. The family would like to thank all the hospice nurses that cared for Karen and especially Donna who helped through a difficult time. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lois Lackey; and previous husbands: Max Brown, Steve Novotny, and Jerry Klim. Karen is survived by her husband Billy of the home; sons: Kevin Novotny of Sealy, Tx; and Steve Novotny of Tacoma, WA; father: Wester Lackey of Sunray; sisters: Candus Tucker of Sunray, Tx and Roxanne Seetin and husband Mike of Perry, KS; and a brother: Lynn Lackey and wife Mary of Mars Hill, NC. Karen is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. The family suggests with gratitude that memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
