Kenneth Lee Coffey, 81, of Dumas, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at First Christian Church, with Pastor Darrell Wait officiating. Burial will be private at Dumas Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Ken was born on September 7, 1945, in Clovis, New Mexico, to Edgar and Marie Coffey. He was raised in Lubbock, attended Roosevelt High School, and graduated with the class of 1965. In high school he excelled in basketball, track, and FFA.

On November 4, 1966, he married the love of his life, Judy Kaye Strickland, in Lubbock. They shared nearly 50 years together, loved to travel, and cherished time with their family. Judy preceded him in death in 2016.

Ken and Judy moved to Dumas in 1968 to help open the Kon Kai Hotel. Ken later worked for Stanley Tire and Gray Johnston Chevrolet, where he met Butch Watkins, who later joined him at Coffey Tire. Ken owned and operated Coffey Tire & Brake in Dumas for 42 years. In the early years he was in partnership with Jim Johnston and Keith Watson, and for many of those years he worked side by side with his daughter, Stacey.

He was a member of First Christian Church and the Dumas Noon Lions Club. He was instrumental in forming Moore County Crime Stoppers, served as a leader of the Moore County 4-H Rifle Club, and was president of the Moore County Livestock Association. He was generous with both his time and his support of local charities.

Ken is survived by his children, Stacey Coffey Hutson and her husband, Richard, Kyle Coffey and his wife, Gloria; grandchildren Rhett Hutson and his wife, Ashley, Ridge Hutson, Crü and Chevëlle Coffey; great-grandchildren Jacolby and Riley Kaye Hutson; and his sister-in-law, Sylvia Strickland.

In addition to his wife, Judy, he was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Marie Coffey, and his sisters, Donna Sue McClary and Mary Ann Coffey, who died as a newborn.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Moore County 4-H Scholarship Fund.
