Kenneth G. Wells, 93 of Stratford, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. Graveside services will be held at 11 o'clock in the morning on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Stratford Cemetery with Clay Wells officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
Kenneth Glenn Wells was born May 22 nd 1932 at Griggs, OK to Glenn & Leona Wells. Lived there till his dad’s death leaving Leona a single parent of ten. At age 3 or 4 the family moved to Boise City where “the boys”, Virg, Jeff, & Dad (a year or so apart in age) where the perks of town life abounded. They earned money cleaning chicken houses, & gutters, tipping over outhouses, & joyriding in the town’s fire truck. Dad met his wife in 6 the grade when Lynn Crabtree moved to Boise City. They became a couple then and never dated anyone else. They married in ’52 at 8am; Dad was hoping not many would come. Mom & Dad were each others for over 80 years. They laughed to the end, gave “hand hugs”, but still mentioned divorce lawyers if the other didn’t straighten up. Dad said his favorite things in life were mom, football, square dancing, farming, & welding. They moved to a farm 30 miles from town down 15 miles of dirt road. Dad was in heaven—no neighbors, farmed his own crops, had a shop, no TV, no phone, & mom. They lived there for 48 years, raised 4 kids-Paul, Jan, Mark, & Jennifer as well as wheat, milo, & cattle. Growing up Dad taught us to fix it with what you have & “make it work” because “ain’t nobody gonna do it for you” & “there’s always a way”. Dad was a paradox. He’d sing Hank Williams’ “Your Cheatin’ Heart” but also old gospels. It was commented he was always singing and had a song for every occasion, Tennessee Ernie Ford’s Sixteen Tons was his theme song. He could cuss you out like no other but recite poetry like Frost’s Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening & The Village Blacksmith by Longfellow. He was a fan of Glen Ford westerns & Laurel & Hardy comedies. He wasn’t affectionate to say the least but when we would come home from college Dad never gave hugs or “glad you’re home”. Instead he would “box” us around the supper table while mom cooked supper. He’d pop you till your arms were red but you’d both be laughing the whole time. Honor, do right by your neighbor even if it meant coming up short, & family was dad’s creedo.
He was preceeded in death by wife Lynn Wells, son Mark Wells, granddaughter Ashley Wells, and all 9 of his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by son Paul, wife Sandy, daughters Jan & Jennifer. Grandkids, Derrek, Colter, M’Lynn, & Kristopher, as well as 2 great grandkids Bronson & Sutton Crews.
