Lydia Montoya, 55 of Amarillo, formerly of Dumas, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Funeral Services will be held at 2 o’clock on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Pastor Antonio Chavez, officiating. Lydia will be available for viewing on Sunday from 12 o’clock in the afternoon to 8 o’clock in the evening and Monday 8 o’clock in the morning to 1:30 in the afternoon at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
Lydia was born on June 15, 1970, to Ignacio, Sr. and Lydia (Hernandez) Montoya in El Paso, TX. The family moved to Dumas where she attended school and graduated from Dumas High School in 1989. After graduation, she enlisted in the United States Army where she honorably served her country. Lydia was united in marriage to Christie on June 19, 2022, in Amarillo, TX where they made their home. Lydia enjoyed gardening and grew tomatoes that everyone envied. She was also very handy and did numerous DIY projects and made beautiful planters. She loved fishing, the Texas Rangers and the Texas Longhorns. She and Christie attended Life Church in Amarillo.
She was preceded in death by her father; sister: Maria Estella Cordero; brother: Danny Montoya.
Lydia is survived by spouse: Christie Montoya; stepchildren: Emory Smith, Mason Smith and wife Emily, Haven Ledgerwood and Allie Hill; grandchildren: Zahara Grace and Ola Smith; her mother: Lydia Montoya; sisters: Emilia Holmes, Alicia Dickerson, Olivia Montoya; brothers: Ignacio Montoya, Jr., Ricardo Montoya, Sr., Leo Montoya, and Joe Montoya; numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
