Mary Louise Ferris

Mary Louise Ferris, 96 of Dumas, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024.  A come and go reception will be held at The Arts Center from 2 o’clock until 4 o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, March 3, 2024, in honor of Mary.  Cremation is under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.  

Mary was born on March 13, 1927, in Drumright OK to Wesley and Thelma (Thomason) Zumwalt.  She was united in marriage to Earl Ferris on September 25, 1958, and the couple moved to Dumas in 1965 where they made their home.   Mary was a registered nurse and worked for the Moore County Hospital District from 1966 until 1990 serving as the Director of Education and the Director of Nursing. After retiring from the Moore County Hospital District, she went to work in The Moore County Jail from 1990 until 2005.  Mary genuinely enjoyed taking care of people, whether it was her patients or her family.   She loved art and was an accomplished artist, she loved to paint.  Above all, she enjoyed being with her family and watching her grandsons in all their sporting events.  She attended the First Christian Church.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; son Wess in 2000 and a brother, Bobby Zumwalt.

Mary is survived by her husband, Earl of the home; daughter in law, Pam Grimes of Dumas, TX; grandsons: Zach Ferris and wife Randi of Bushland, TX and Lance Ferris and wife Leslie of Fort Worth, TX; great grandchildren: Mason, Quaid, Zachary and Wyatt.

The family suggests with gratitude that memorials be made to The Arts Center, 1810 S Dumas Ave, Dumas, TX 79029.
