Merlene Dean 64 of Stratford passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 11 o’clock in the morning on Monday, July 27, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Stratford with Pastor Tommy Long, officiating. Merlene will be available for viewing on Sunday from 4 o’clock in the afternoon until 8 o’clock in the evening at the funeral home in Stratford. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.
Merlene was born on August 28, 1961, in Canyon, Texas, to Merle and Julia Willey Heiskell. From an early age, Merlene exhibited a generous heart, wise spirit, and a deep affection for her family and friends. Growing up, she called Stratford home and was a proud graduate of Stratford High School, where she formed many cherished lifelong relationships.
On December 5, 1985, Merlene married William Dean in Stratford, Texas. As a devoted wife, her commitment to her family was unwavering, and she carried those values forward throughout her life.
Professionally, Merlene exemplified dedication and reliability, serving as an office coordinator for Stratford Feedyard for an impressive 44 years. Her colleagues admired her tireless work ethic and the warmth she brought to her workplace each day. Merlene’s ability to organize those around her left an indelible mark and garnered widespread appreciation.
But it was within the embrace of her family that Merlene truly flourished. She was an amazing mother, deeply devoted to her children and grandchildren, always ensuring they felt seen, supported, and loved. Her kindness, understanding, and open arms created a foundation of stability and encouragement for her loved ones. Merlene’s compassion extended beyond people, too; she held a special affection for cats, delighting in their companionship and sharing her kindness with all creatures in her care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her father; two sisters: Serena and Letitia.
Merlene is survived by her children: Christopher Huereca of Temecula, CA, Lacey Dean of Groom, TX, Coy Dean of Amarillo, TX; mother: Julia Williams and husband JJ; grandchildren: Tucker, Treyten, Tate, and Kase; sister: Mayle Riffe of Mansfield, TX
As Stratford and all who knew her bid farewell, Merlene Dean will be remembered for her steadfast loyalty, her gentle heart, and the love she poured into her family and work. Her presence will be greatly missed, and her spirit will continue to echo in the lives she graced.
