Michael Ray Garth, 72 of Dumas passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023. Michael Ray Garth, affectionately known as “Mike”, “Garth” or “Goof”, was born on July 17, 1950, and rode into eternity on April, 22, 2023, in Dumas, Texas. Mike was born to Wayne and La Trice Ward Garth and graduated from Dumas High School in 1968. After High School, Mike served in the National Guard. He married Mary Lynn McDowell on February 5, 1971.

Mike was a farmer, rancher, but his calling was being a cowboy. Mike worked all over the Texas Panhandle, caring for cattle and helping wherever help was needed. The Good Lord gave man charge over the animals, and Mike faithfully cared for his animals for over 60 years. Mike had many friends because he never met a stranger. Mike and Mary Lynn were very involved in the community of Dumas. Together, they enjoyed Dance Club, Rodeo functions, and Circle of Friends. Mike especially enjoyed cooking for calf ropings with his friends and fellow cowboys.  Later in life when Mike and Mary Lynn owned the Alley Café, you could find Mike right alongside Mary Lynn working and feeding their customers. Many in the community lived for Friday night “Steak Night” cooked by Mike. Very affectionate, Mike gave the greatest hugs and was never afraid to say, “I Love You”. His family always came first, he loved his children and grandchildren with all of his heart. He attended as many of their activities and games as possible.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Mary Lynn in 2021, and his nephew, Jake McDowell.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son Toad and wife Sheryl Garth of Pampa, Texas, daughter Stacy and Husband Mike “again” Roberts of Logan, New Mexico, 7 grandchildren and 10 ½ great-grandchildren; brothers Dirk Garth and wife Brenda of Cypress, Texas and Tab Garth and wife Tommie of Allen, Texas. Mike also leaves behind many extended McDowell family members as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family gratefully requests memorials be made to Moore County Hospice in Dumas, Texas.
