Nancy was born on July 21, 1946, in Poteau, Oklahoma, to Clifford and Juanita (Goodin) Smith. She was educated in Poteau and graduated there, carrying with her the values of family, hard work, and care for others that would remain with her throughout her life.
On May 10, 1964, Nancy married Lewis Johnson, beginning a marriage that spanned 62 years. Together they built a family and a life marked by devotion and constancy. Nancy was a dedicated worker through the years, serving as a loan officer at First State Bank, later working at Kona Kai, and then at Wal-Mart for 10 years. She was known for the steady way she cared for both her work and her home.
Nancy found joy in the simple and meaningful things of life. She loved crafts of all kinds, enjoyed her coffee, and was the cook of the family. Those who knew her well especially knew her for her pumpkin bread, a favorite that became part of the warmth she shared so naturally with the people around her. Her love was often expressed through the things she made, the meals she prepared, and the welcoming presence she brought into everyday life.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis Johnson. She also leaves behind her son, Jerry Johnson and his wife, Wendy, of Aubrey, Texas; and her daughter, Stacy Widener and her husband, Johnny, of Dumas, Texas. Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren, Rachel Widener, Becky Widener, Jonathan Widener, Hannah Lewis and her husband, Austin, Sydney Keeton and her husband, Gibbs, Jared Johnson and his wife, Alexis, and Mark Johnson. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Sophie, Jaylee, Madison, Cruz, Russell, Quinn, Piper, Emryn, Bellamy, Archer, Cali, and Henry. Nancy is further survived by her sisters, Marie McCroskey and Cecilia Vermilion, along with extended family members who will hold her memory close.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Smith; her mother, Juanita Smith; her son, Bobby Smith; her granddaughter, Abby Widener; her brothers, Arnold Smith and wife Kay and Randy Smith and wife Dottie.
Nancy will be remembered for her faithful love for her family, her hardworking spirit, her creativity, and the comfort she brought to others through everyday acts of care. Her life leaves a lasting legacy in the family she loved so deeply and in the many memories they will carry forward.
