Opal Louella Bowen, 88 of Sunray, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at First Assembly God of Sunray with Betty Matthews and Geraldine Savage officiating. Interment will follow in Lane Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock in the evening on Monday at the funeral home in Dumas.
Louella was born on January 3, 1936, in Sayre, OK to O.W. and Florence Lanora (Brown) Green. She met and later married James Bowen on September 30, 1955, in Sunray, TX. The couple made Sunray their home where they raised their children. Louella loved to sew and make cakes and desserts. She and James enjoyed spending time at Red River with their family. Louella also loved going to family reunions and loved the color purple. She was a long time member of the First Assembly of God in Sunray where she taught Sunday school.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James in 2018 and her son Ray Bowen in 2021.
Louella is survived by her daughter: Belinda Gay Bowen Rockafellow of Lubbock, TX; daughter in law: Christi Bowen of Arlington, TX; grandchildren: Brandi Bowen, Lindsay Kay Rockafellow and Sam Reed and Dusty Parker and wife Brittney; great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Shay, and Timothy Keese; sister: Diana Debord and husband Ray.
