Orville Royce Mathews

Orville Royce Mathews, 77 of Gruver passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 9 o’clock in the morning on Monday, October 31, 2022 at Hansford County Cemetery. A Memorial Service will follow at 11 o’clock in the morning at First Assembly of God Church in Sunray, TX. Mr. Mathews will be available for viewing from 2 o’clock to 4 o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday at First Assembly of God Church in Sunray at which time the family will receive friends. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Royce was born in Perryton, TX on October 1, 1945, to Orville Wilbur and Mary Ann Josephine (Black) Mathews. He grew up in Gruver and graduated from Gruver High School.  After high school, he attended Clarendon College where he played basketball.  In 1970 he was united in marriage to Betty Reddin in Trent, TX and the couple immediately moved to Gruver where they raised their children and made their home.  Royce had numerous hobbies and interests including training horses and dogs, shooting and teaching the grandchildren to shoot, cattle and studying the Bible, especially Revelation.  His greatest joy was following and supporting his grandchildren in all their activities.  Royce was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Sunray where he was the pastor.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister.
Royce is survived by his loving wife Betty Mathews of the home; children: Raquel Mathews of Gruver, TX, Ryan Mathews and wife Rebecca of Gruver, TX, and Robbi Johnson and husband Justin of Spearman, TX; grandchildren: Coley Mathews and wife Sarah, Kailey Felderhoff and husband Aaron, Kari Mathews, Cagan Mathews, Kami Mathews, Lani Wright, Colt Mathews, Kimber Whitehead, Shiloh Wright, and Cason Mathews; great-grandson: Nathan Felderhoff; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
