Pedro Arturo Vargas Garcia, born on December 1, 1954, in Gran Morelos, Chihuahua, Mexico, passed away peacefully in Amarillo, TX, on April 8, 2026. A man deeply cherished by his family and community, Pedro’s life was marked by dedication, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
Pedro’s career was distinguished by his integral role as a member of the crew that built Monfort. Upon the project's completion, he was offered a position there, where he faithfully worked for over four decades. His hardworking spirit was evident throughout his professional life, reflecting a perseverance and dedication that inspired his colleagues and family alike.
A vibrant and sociable individual, Pedro had a genuine love for people and music. His enthusiasm extended to his active participation in coordinating dances to benefit Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Cactus, where he was a devoted member. Pedro's sense of humor brought joy to many, coupled with his welcoming nature that made him a beloved figure in his community.
Among his cherished interests was baseball, a sport that he loved not only as a pastime but also as a mentor. He dedicated his time coaching in Cactus and later contributed as an umpire, nurturing young talent and fostering sportsmanship with patience and encouragement.
Pedro treasured his family above all else. He married Carmen on September 18, 1976, in his hometown of Gran Morelos, sharing a lifelong partnership filled with love and mutual respect. Their home was a center of warmth and laughter. Pedro adored his grandchildren, finding immense joy in their presence and nurturing their lives with care and affection.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carmen Vargas; daughters Erika Olivas Vargas and her husband Ever of Cactus, TX, and Adriana “Addy” Gomez and her husband Lazaro of Amarillo, TX. His legacy lives on in his grandchildren Ever Manuel Olivas, Livan Olivas, Ayden Olivas, Lexy Gomez, and Alan Gomez, as well as his great-grandchild, Milan Olivas. Pedro is also survived by his twin brother Robert Vargas, brother Raul Vargas, and sisters Emilia Guerra and Irma Gomez. The family and community remember him fondly for his kindness, dedication, and the light he brought into their lives.
Pedro's sister, Vita Portillo, preceded him in death, joining him in eternal peace.
Services to honor the life of Pedro Arturo Vargas Garcia will be held beginning with a Rosary on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 6 o'clock in the evening at Morrison Memorial Chapel. Following this, a Mass will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, starting at 11 o'clock in the morning at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, with Father Luis Lopez as celebrant. Interment will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
