Raymond Lee Getman

October 26, 1935 — January 8, 2021

Raymond Lee Getman, 85 of Amarillo, passed on Friday, January 8, 2021. Due to Covid-19 concerns, a joint memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in celebration of both Raymond and Loujeans love and life. Please visit his FaceBook page or check in with family members for updates on time and location. Raymond was born on October 26, 1935 to Clarence L. Getman and Leah Gladys Crawford in Amarillo. Raymond was the sixth youngest of seven children (six sons and one daughter). The family moved around quite a bit, having lived in Idaho, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and of course, Texas. Raymond met the love of his life, Loujean Russell in New Mexico, while she was attending Deming High School. Raymond and Loujean were married on October 5, 1958. Loujeans parents were none-too-happy about the marriage, as Loujean was only 16, but they grew to love Raymond, as does anyone who has ever met him. Their love story lasted for over 62 years. Raymond worked in a number of constructions, mining and lumber jobs before getting hired by Transwestern Pipeline Company in 1960. Having received many promotions over the years with his last position with Transwestern as a Station Supervisor in Roswell, NM, Raymond returned to the family business in 1982 to work with his Dad and several of his brothers. Then in the 1990s, while reluctant to leave his beloved Loujean, Raymond went to work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, supporting Chevrons offshore platforms. Growing up a country boy, this was quite an adventure for Raymond and always brought a smile to his face when he would recollect his experiences in Africa. Raymond would eventually return home permanently to his family and to work with his two brothers in the family business until his passing. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Loujean; parents; sister, Leahdell Reynolds; brothers: Donald, Frank and Earl Getman. Raymond is survived by his brothers: Harlan Getman and Clarence Robert (CR) Getman of Dumas; sons: Gary and wife, Nguyet Ly of Houston, Russell Dean and wife, Shelia of Clarkesville, GA, and Ray and wife, Carrie of Amarillo; sisters-in-law: Martie Smith of Sherwood, OR, and Betty Russell of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren: Tyson and wife, Kelli of Strafford, MO, Terrah and husband, Preston Titterington of Dallas, Audrey and husband, Zack Garrison of Ft. Worth, Rachel of Dallas; and six great grandchildren. To plant Memorial Trees in memory of Raymond Lee Getman, please click here to visit our Sympathy Store.
