Rena Lucille Engram Popejoy

Rena Lucille Engram Popejoy, 88 of Sunray passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022. A Private Family Graveside will be held at Lane Memorial Cemetery. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1 o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Sunray High School Gymnasium with Dave Ruth and Bruce Broxson, officiating. Rena will be available for viewing on Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 1 o’clock until 8 o’clock in the evening at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Sunray. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson Morrison Funeral Directors.

Rena was born on June 4, 1934, in Clovis, NM to M.C. and Ramona Engram. Rena married Dawson Popejoy on November 18, 1951 and raised 3 children in Sunray. She loved the town and the people of Sunray where she served as a councilwoman for the city. Rena worked as a beautician. She loved talking to people and never met a stranger. Rena could sell pencils on a NYC corner and know 6 people. She was a painter, knitter, sewer, and delicious cook. Rena was a member of Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi and First United Methodist Church. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandson: Jared Goolsby; sister: Dr. Karen Rich; parents; and nephews: Max Baer Engram, Scott Baccus, Terry Rich; niece: Lisa Elliott.

Rena is survived by her daughter: Pam Goolsby and husband Danny of Sunray, TX; sons: Rocky Popejoy and wife Lisa of Amarillo, TX, Mickey Popejoy of Dallas, TX; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers: Roy Engram and Kim Engram; sister: Eloise McGaillard; numerous nieces and nephews.
