Sammy Horton

Sammy C. Horton, 69 of Dumas passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 2:30 in the afternoon on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Dallas Stringer, officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 o’clock to 7 o’clock in the evening at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Sammy was born on October 5, 1954, in Dumas, TX to Sammie and Esther (Murray) Cauthen. She grew up in Dumas and graduated from Dumas High School in 1973. She married Kenneth Horton on July 22, 1983 in Dumas where the couple made their home. Sammy was a bookkeeper working for Johnson Chevrolet, Duffers, ASCS, Amarillo Thermal King and Flowers Etc. After her daughter Whitney came along, she went to work at Hillcrest Elementary. Sammy enjoyed crafting and taking care of her nieces and nephews. She was of Christian Faith. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters: Sherry Samuels and Reva White; brother-in-law: Eugene Samuels; nephew: Clint Cauthen.

Sammy is survived by her husband Kenneth of the home; daughter: Whitney Horton of Amarillo, TX; brother: Terry Cauthen and wife Carol of Dumas, TX; sisters: Donna Cauthen-Garnett and husband James of Amarillo, TX, Lisa Underwood of Amarillo, TX; along with numerous other extended family members.
