Sarah Lummus, 85 of Amarillo, formerly of Dumas, Texas, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are entrusted to Beeson Morrison Funeral Directors.
Sarah was born in Clarendon, Texas to Raymond and Grace Finchum on June 17, 1938. Sarah married William (Bill) E. Lummus in 1956 and they had four children. Sarah had been a resident of Dumas, Texas since she was a little girl. She moved to Amarillo in 2021. Sarah always took pride in her hometown and the history of Dumas and the surrounding area. Sarah loved art, especially the works of local artists, Carolyn Stallwitz and Manuel Franco. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of the local museum “Window on the Plains”. Sarah loved roaming the creek bed at Plum Creek looking for “rose rocks” which she always found. She was also a very good cook and seamstress and had a great love of reading. She especially loved mysteries, local authors and history. Sarah worked as a librarian for many years and as a medical office manager before retiring.
Sarah was preceded in death by former husband and lifelong friend, William (Bill) E. Lummus and her son, Brian E. Lummus. She is survived by three daughters, Vanessa Cardwell and husband Lee of Amarillo Texas, Tonya McCandless and husband Curtis of Shattuck, Oklahoma and Lynne DeLaRosa and husband Raymond of Amarillo, twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Barbara Bell of Katy, Texas and Patricia Oldham of Farmington, New Mexico and sister-in-law Shirley Beard of Dennison, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests with gratitude that memorials be made to any Hospice organization.
