Sheryl Fawn Best

Sheryl Fawn “Cathey” Best, 73 of Amarillo passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023. Memorial Services are scheduled for 11 o’clock in the morning on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Palo Duro Cowboy Church with Pastor Bob Lindsey, officiating.  A Private family burial will be held at Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Sheryl was born on December 9, 1949 in Dumas, TX to Clovis Cathey and Mary Ellen Hataway. She graduated from Dumas High School class of 1968. Sheryl loved caring for others and animals, playing the slots, and massage therapy.

Sheryl has worn many hats; from process server, bail bonds person, correctional officer, and licensed massage therapist. She retired from TDCJ after 20 years. She practiced massage therapy for over 30 years. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-parents: Velda Cathey Jobe and Orval Arganbright; and brother: Kent Cathey.

Sheryl is survived by her daughter: Kim Carr and husband Kevin of Amarillo, TX; grandson: Brennan Carr of Amarillo, TX; granddaughter: Alayna Carr of Amarillo, TX; siblings: Larry Cathey and wife Violet of Canyon, TX, Keith Bassham and wife Shari of Hartford, AR, Frances Martin and husband Jim of Albuquerque, NM, Keith Cathey of Port Isabel, TX, Sharon King of Amarillo, TX, Mike Bassham of Garden City, KS, Bill Bassham and wife Kay of Plano, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews and close friends.
