Shirley Goldsmith

Shirley Goldsmith passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026 at the age of 82. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 11 o’clock in the morning at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 555 E Hastings in Amarillo, with Pastor Michael Carter to officiate. Graveside to follow at Dumas Cemetery at 3 o’clock that afternoon. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson ~ Morrison Funeral Directors.

Shirley Rose Lasater was born on August 31, 1943, in Dumas, Texas to Maurice and Rosie Lasater. Rosie married Claude Hughes in 1948, whom later adopted Shirley as his own. He was the only "daddy" she ever knew. She attended Dumas schools and there she also met her one true love, O.F. Goldsmith whom she married on April 9, 1966. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Shelly in 1971.

Shirley was a housewife for many years then worked for the telephone company in Dumas as an operator. She went on to open and manage Braum's in Dumas. She and O.F. moved to Amarillo where she continued in management for Braum's. She retired from AISD where she worked as cafeteria manager at Woodlands Elementary where every child, parent and teacher who knew "Ms Shirley" absolutely loved her. In 1995, Shirley and O.F. were blessed with their only grandchild, Brayden Black, who was the joy who filled every aspect of her heart and soul.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Rosie Hughes, her brothers, Anthony Lasater, Frank Lasater, Walter Lasater and Velton Hughes, and her husband, O.F. Goldsmith, to whom she was married to for 58 years. She is survived by her daughter, Shelly Black, of Amarillo and her grandson, Brayden Black, of Round Rock along with several special cousins and cherished friends.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family encourages those felt led to donate to St Jude or a favorite charity.
