Sonja Jean Kendrick

Sonja Jean Kendrick, 76 of Stratford, Texas passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Stratford with pastor Rev. Ron Whitt presiding. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors. Sonja was born on May 31, 1941 in Clarendon, Texas to Lawrence Samuel (Red) and Anita DeBord. Her family moved to Stratford in 1953 and she graduated from Stratford High School in May of 1959. She was united in marriage to Cagle Kendrick in 1962. She graduated from Texas Tech in 1964 and had 32 years experience teaching. Her degree was in Business Education, but she found her niche teaching typing and computer literacy to 6, 7, and 8th graders in Stratford Middle School for 25 years. Sonja had two sons, Brian born in Lubbock in 1965, and Craig born in El Paso in 1968. They spent 2 years in El Paso while Cagle served in the Army and 5 years in Las Cruces , New Mexico while Cagle worked for the Department of Defense and Sonja taught school. They returned to Stratford where they built a home on the farm in 1974. They resided there until her death. She is survived by her husband Cagle, two sons Brian and wife Laura of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Craig and wife Julie of Houston, Texas, seven grand children, one great grand child, and two sisters Barbara Hudson Moore and Grovene Handing both of Amarillo, Texas.
