Stanley Worth Pleyer

Stanley Worth Pleyer, 90, of Dumas and long-time resident of Sherman County passed away Monday, June 4, 2018. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 o'clock in the morning on Monday, June 11, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Stratford. Interment will follow in Dalhart Memorial Park under the direction of Morrison Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 5 o'clock in the afternoon until 7 o'clock in the evening on Saturday at the funeral home in Dumas and will receive friends the following afternoon from 3 o'clock until 5 o'clock at the funeral home in Stratford. Stanley was born October 10, 1927, in Dalhart, TX to William Estel and Corda Valentine Cleavinger Pleyer. Stanley was the oldest of five children; he attended Stratford High School. He was drafted into the US Army to serve during World War II from March 8, 1946 to September 9, 1947. As a PFC with the 503rd Air Service Group, he worked as a Teletype Mechanic and Guard Patrolman at Selfridge Field, Michigan. Following his service, he returned to work on the family farm in Sherman County. Stanley met his wife, Doris Black Pleyer, of Dalhart while she worked at a local business as a bookkeeper. They married November 13, 1955. He was a long time farmer/rancher in Sherman County, living on the family homestead until 2012, when he and his wife moved to Dumas. Stanley and Doris were among the first members of North Plains Christian Church. He was never one to talk about himself or his accomplishments, but he always worked hard to provide for his family, and he was very proud of his daughters. He always enjoyed visiting and a good cup of coffee. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Doris; a sister, Dolores Humphreys; grandson, Kenneth McDaniel; and great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Rae Doshier. He is survived by three daughters: Gloria McDaniel and husband Keith of Tomball, TX; Karen Watkins and husband Alan of Dumas, TX and Janet Richins and husband Wesley of Las Cruces, NM. More survivors include seven grandchildren: Kevin and Sue McDaniel and Kathryn and Chris Doshier of Houston, TX; Clay Richins of Pasadena, TX; Evan and Laura Richins of Ankeny, IA; Sean Richins, Alec Richins and Levi Richins all of Las Cruces, NM; and two great-grandchildren, Caroline and Zeke Doshier. Other survivors are sisters Corrine Hughes of Waco, Gaynelle Oakley of Stratford and Billie Terrell of Dumas; cousins Raymond Ritchey of Dumas, Stephen Cleavinger of Dalhart, Cecelia Cleavinger Ford of Boise, ID, and Abbie Freeman Crandell of Amarillo; sister in law Hazel Black of Amarillo; numerous nieces and nephews. Last but not least, Stanley is survived by his faithful, constant companion, Cat, who watched over him day and night. He will be missed by all. The family will be at 113 Ted in Dumas.
